Merchant Voyage is the story of an amateur naturalist couple that traveled the world near the turn of the century, seeking out exotic treasures from faraway places, finding specimens and oddities that no one had ever seen. They became merchants, wanting to bring back all these things to share with others; textiles from India and Nepal, shells and butterflies from Oceana, exquisite jewelry from three continents, hand carved furniture carried over mountain passes, fossils and sparkling rocks from deepest jungles and stark deserts, small luxuries of soap, wonderful smelling things, and delicate decorative objects from France, hand-printed papers from Italy, ribbons and coloring boxes and other simple pleasures from all over the globe.
As their adventure together came to a close, they got so caught up in their collections, that they let their estate fall into elegant decay. Their many treasures have come at last to rest here, at Merchant Voyage, where we continue to find both new and antique merchandise to fill every corner of our store and carry on the voyage of discovery.
